Does my swimmer need to know all of the swimming strokes?
No. Your swimmer only needs to have the stamina to swim 25
yards. Our practice program is designed to acquaint and teach young swimmers
proper strokes and introduce the training required for today's competitive
swimming. Emphasis is placed on learning the proper stroke, start and turn
techniques as well as the improvement of each swimmer’s "personal
best" time in each event.
How often do the kids practice?
Practice is held Monday through Saturday beginning May 17th
and through the entirety of the season.
Do swimmers have to be at all practices?
Attendance to practice is not mandatory but highly
encouraged. The more your swimmer goes to practice the better the swimmer gets.
With that being said, we understand that everyone has busy lives and need to
balance other activities and school.
How long is the swim season?
Our 2025 season begins May 17th through Champs held July 19th
and 20th. We will participate in meets both at home and away.
Are the swim meets required?
Swimmers are required to participate in a minimum of
2 official meets per season; however, we strongly encourage all swimmers to
participate in every swim meet if possible.
Meets provide the opportunity for swimmers to gauge their progress and
see the results of their hard work during practice. Each and every swimmer is
critical to the team’s overall performance and is therefore expected to
participate in as many meets as possible. League rules require each swimmer to
have swum in a minimum of two meets during the regular season in order to be
eligible to swim at the Champs end of July.
Is it mandatory that we volunteer?
Yes. The Federal Club and GRAL are parent run organizations.
It would not be possible to run a meet without our parent volunteers. In order
for your swimmer(s) to participate in any of the swim meets, it is mandatory
that you volunteer for at least six positions in either the first or second
half of each meet. Parents of multiple swimmers are asked to add one
additional shift per additional child.
How many events does a swimmer swim?
Swimmers may only participate in up to 3 individual events and 1 relay. You may find your swimmer in fewer events.
This is because it is not always possible to have all swimmers swim the relays
and/or they are not yet able to legally swim certain strokes within a
reasonable time.
What is the order of the Medley Relay?
(1) Backstroke (2) Breaststroke (3) Butterfly (4) Freestyle
When do swimmers receive ribbons from meets?
Ribbons will be stored in the swimmer folder. Ribbons are distributed at the fun practice the
morning following the meet. Coaches have
access to ribbons at other practices if needed.
What is the Swimtopia App?
Swimtopia App is a paid app for your phone
and provides real-time meet results and standings from anywhere, at any
time. You can flag your swimmer/s as “favorites” and then easily filter
down to see both completed results and upcoming schedule. This app is NOT
mandatory but the results are faster than what our computer volunteers can
print and post!
